History
In June of 2004 Alternate Currents was formed in response to a need for a single strong platform for Boston artists. Sponsoring several art events from our South Boston location we started to solidify ideas and plans on how to move forward. Incorporating the community and encouraging clientele we opened SPACE 200, our gallery in downtown Boston, in August of 2004. Continuing to represent artists on our website, we showcased these artists at Space 200 in 16 well-received exhibits throughout the next 2 years. Late in 2006 SPACE 200 closed its doors in the downtown location with plans to reopen in South Boston in the coming years. During the gallery hiatus, we continued to place artists in several locations around Boston and strengthen our internet presence.
June 1, 2008 brings the new and more active version of our website with increased marketing and community presence. Our new website will feature direct sales of art, more comprehensive local links, a gift shop for art items and new client services. Alternate Currents will be adding many new artists this year and keeping our existing artists updated to continue our original vision of Bringing Boston Art to Light.
